YOUNG VOICES

THURSDAY 30TH MAY, 7.00PM - UNIVERSITY CONCERT HALL
University Concert Hall is delighted to present this exciting concert featuring a selection of local and regional youth choirs, as part of the Limerick Sings International Choral Festival. 

Each choir will perform a short collection of songs from their own repertoire before joining together to sing as one choir under the baton of acclaimed Musical Director Máire Keary-Scanlon.

SINGING WITHOUT A SAFETY NET WORKSHOP WITH THE SWINGLES

FRIDAY 7TH JUNE, 4.00PM - UNIVERSITY CONCERT HALL
We all have music inside us – some of us just have a hard time getting it out. In this workshop, suitable for any age or level of experience, we banish inhibitions and use the tools we all possess to create music in the moment. Beginning with some fun warm-ups, and progressing through improvisation games and listening exercises, participants will soon find themselves composing musical masterpieces on the fly. This is a truly empowering session that gets to the heart of what musicality means – over and over again, the group are surprised and delighted by the results.

The workshop is suitable for singers of all levels of experience, but is generally best for ages 14 and up.


THE SWINGLES IN CONCERT

FRIDAY 7TH JUNE, 7.30PM - UNIVERSITY CONCERT HALL
The Swingles are one of the world’s most admired and loved vocal groups, and their stylish, classy shows take them to venues and festival stages across the world. They have earned 5 Grammy® Awards and are recipients of multiple prestigious international accolades. With generations of fans from their live performances and appearances on film and TV soundtracks, The Swingles’ are as relevant today as when Ward Swingle started the group nearly six decades ago.

With their trademark vocal dexterity and innate musicality, The Swingles are reimagining jazz, classical, folk and pop from their ever-growing repertoire of arrangements, alongside a rich vein of new original material. They make creative use of close-mic amplification and unique live audio looping techniques to their stage performances – an immersive layering up of vocals to mesmerise the audience.

OUTDOOR CHORUS WITH BERNIE SHERLOCK

SATURDAY 8TH JUNE, 9.00AM - UNIVERSITY CONCERT HALL
Singers will enjoy a fun rehearsal workshop of a well-known song, led by acclaimed conductor Bernie Sherlock, in University Concert Hall, before performing together, conducted by Bernie, at the stunning Cliffs of Moher. Bernie will be joined by members of her award-winning chamber choir New Dublin Voices, to help lead the performance.

This is a unique opportunity to work with one of Ireland's most renowned choral conductors, as well as to perform against the beautiful backdrop of the Cliffs.

The Outdoor Chorus is open to singers of all levels of experience. You can join as a choir, small group, or individual singer. Once you book your ticket, we will send you the song to practise in advance, but there is no pressure to be note-perfect - we are singing together for fun!

Bernie is founder-conductor of New Dublin Voices, Artistic Director of the Irish Youth Choirs, a former co-conductor of EuroChoir (2021), and a guest conductor with Chamber Choir Ireland. She has won conducting prizes in Finland, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, Slovenia, Wales, and Ireland. She adjudicates conducting competitions and at choral festivals throughout Europe, and her work giving choral workshops extends to the US, Canada and China, to name but a few of her achievements.

AN EVENING OF CHOIRS IN CONCERT

SATURDAY 8TH JUNE, 8.30PM, REDEMPTORIST CHURCH
This Saturday evening concert of the 2024 Limerick Sings Festival will feature local and visiting choirs, performing a diverse programme including sacred, traditional and folk songs. All presented in the beautiful surrounds of Limerick city’s Redemptorist Church.

AFTERNOON PROMS CONCERT

SUNDAY 9TH JUNE, 4.30PM - ST JOHN’S CATHEDRAL
This delightful Afternoon Proms concert takes place in the beautiful surroundings of St John’s Cathedral and will feature a light choral programme performed by local and visiting choirs. Expect everything from pop to classical – the perfect Sunday afternoon of song to round off the 2024 Limerick Sings Festival!
